Brian Smyth

In Time July 2000

New Page 1

Cork artist Brian Smyth found a warm welcome on the
Dublin art scene when his July 2000 show, Time,
proved a hit with collectors and media alike.

The was Smyth's first major one-man show in the Irish
capital.

The images, which play with the notion of the secular
icon, draw on sources as varied as Renaissance
paintings and Hollywood pinups.

Sinead Kavanagh of TV3 interviewed the young artist
just as early guests arrived. Her six-minute report
was broadcast four times the day after the July 20
opening. (Some years ago viewers to RTE's Late
Show saw Brian interviewed by Gay Byrne.)

A small number of colour folders, featuring 8 of the
26 images from the show, are still available from the
gallery. Further images appear in the Artists section.

Prices for his work remain reasonable, at about 600
for smaller work and 2000 for large (48" x 60")
canvases.
